family and senior portraits FAQs
What should we wear? You don't all have to match exactly, but coordinating outfits do produce a more cohesive portrait. Avoid loud patterns and words particularly close to the face. Solid colors work best. Most of all, be comfortable.

How can we avoid a disaster? For families with small children, tuck a few toys away in a pocket for distracting them when things get boring. Always have a non-messy snack and expect them to be a little uncooperative. Large groups are stressful enough for children let alone being forced to hold still in one.

Can we bring our own props? If your senior is a field hockey star have her bring her stick. If your family dog is more family than dog, he's welcome too.

How much space do we need to set up? Set up for a typical family of four (including the lights and backdrop I bring to your home) usually works well in a living room. We may need to move a coffee table, but I promise -- major renovation usually isn't necessary.

Do we have to shoot the photos inside? I'm happy to do portraits indoors or outdoors. Depending on the location, we may be able to combine both settings in one session. Outdoors is limited by lighting. Early morning and evening are the best times to do portraits outdoors. I can help you find locations for outdoor portraits.

How long does a sitting take? I reserve an hour and a half from start to finish. If it takes longer, that's fine too.

Do you photograph large groups? I'm happy to photograph more than one group at a session if you coordinate it. Many families gather extended family for one portrait then branch off into individual groupings. Extra time is billed by the hour.

What happens after the shoot? It generally takes me 2 to 3 days to crop and post your proofs online in your private web gallery. I will email you a link to view them along with your username and password. You may view the proofs as often and for as long as you like, and you are welcome to share the link with friends and relatives.

How do I order prints? You order what you like when you like. There are no minimums to meet or packages that you must purchase. When you decide what you'd like, just add the sizes and quantities you want to the online shopping cart. After I place the order with the lab, it takes about 5 days for printing (subject to seasonal change).

How do I pick up the prints? You don't. I will deliver the prints to you myself. You never have to leave home. It's the perfect answer for the busy family.

Will you retouch the portraits? Yes, I will automatically touch up the backdrop and any other obvious blemishes prior to printing. If the birthmark on your toddler's upper lip is a fruit juice mustache, I can retouch that too! (within reason - just ask!)

Do you offer additional services? Yes. I'm happy to custom mat and frame your prints before they are delivered to your doorstep. I can also create custom cards and announcements or create a special message from one of many template cards.

Do you offer any unique gifts for my photos? Yes. Make sure you check out the Pomo bangles - personalized bracelets handmade here in Columbus. And be sure to visit The Burnished Book for a one-of-a-kind album to compliment those once-in-a-lifetime portraits.

See? This couldn't be easier. Book a sitting today!
